THEOLOGY AND RELIGIOUS STUDIES

Head of Department: Lameck Mwamukonda, (M.Div.; MA Church
Ministry; BA Religion)
Philosophy
The Department of Theology and Religious Studies believes that God is
the Creator and sustainer of the universe. In love, He sent Jesus Christ
to atone for the sins of humanity. The same God has commissioned us
to advance His work by pointing fallen human beings to the great sacrifice
at Calvary in preparation for the return of our Lord and Saviour,
Jesus Christ.
Vision
Spurred by the approach of the climax of history, the Second Advent
of Christ, we will physically, mentally, spiritually and socially strive for
excellence.
Goal
To prepare ministers of the gospel for pastoral ministry for effectiveness
and efficiency in teaching, preaching, leadership and personal competence
within the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the world at large.
Objectives
1. To equip students with the basic tools of interpreting scriptures
within the historical, cultural, archeological and biblical con
texts.
2. To prepare students for postgraduate studies in pastoral, theo
logical, biblical and religious disciplines.
3. To promote theological education from an African perspective.
Degree Programmes:
The Department of Theological and Religious Studies offers two major
degree programmes:
1. Bachelor of Theology (BTh)
Bachelor of Theology (BTh) is the basic entrance qualification for ministry
in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Its content reflects the Church’s
conviction that successful ministry must be based on a deep knowledge
of Scripture, an understanding of the Churches theology, history and
mission and competence in pastoral skills which attempt to be relevant to
the needs of the contemporary world. It also provides a basis for graduate
study in the biblical, pastoral and theological areas.
2. Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies (BA Rel) with concentrations
in any of the following areas:
i. BA Rel. with Chaplaincy
ii. BA Rel. with Development
iii. BA Rel. with Evangelism
